Coil: A Way to Die — The Films of John Balance & Peter Christopherson

Description

12 September / Belgrade / Kvaka 2.

Screening / Discussion / Exhibition.

COIL need no special introduction. This first-wave British industrial project remains one of the most influential in contemporary culture. Peter Christopherson (1955–2010) and John Balance (1962–2004) not only managed to create a fascinating sound charged with otherworldly energies, but also offered listeners a peculiar techno-pagan worldview. It’s no coincidence that COIL are often spoken of as a quasi-religious cult.

Until recently it seemed that almost all archives had been explored, but thanks to the excavations by the incredible French chroniclers from Timeless Edition, previously unknown 8/16-mm films were discovered and restored — a collection of cinematic experiments by Balance and Christopherson on the border of medical art, body-horror and the transgressive fetishization of death.

The film A Way To Die (2025 / 105 min) will be personally presented by the head of the Timeless Edition publishing house, Xavier Laradji. After the screening — a Q&A featuring occult researcher A. Ibsoratova.

A rare chance to once again encounter the magic of COIL from a completely new, unexpected perspective.
